Parks & Trails NY (PTNY) announced the recipients of their 2025 Genesee Valley Trail Town (GVTT) grants at the WNY Greenways Planning Summit on March 28. The Town of Wheatland received a $15,000 grant award, which was the largest amount awarded of any the applicants. This grant award is targeted for improvements in the Town of Wheatland owned Indian Allan Park, which is located adjacent to the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park.
This is the third PTNY grant received by our community and demonstrates they trust our community to deliver on projects that add value to the town, the region and NY State. Grassroots efforts like this improve local and regional recreation, cultural and economic resources. This ongoing work makes life better for residents and attracts visitors. Letters of support were provided from all our local and regional elected officials as well as local non-profit organizations, including the GWA Chamber of Commerce.
PTNY, with generous funding provided by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, distributed $60,000 in competitive grants to support a broader initiative aimed at boosting local economies by leveraging visitation to nearby public lands. PTNY is the leading statewide advocate for parks and trails in the state.
The Town of Wheatland is one of ten communities actively participating in the GVTT program, an effort led by the collaboration of Genesee Valley Greenway State Park, Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway, Parks and Trails NY and Letchworth Gateway Villages. The Wheatland GVTT committee is always open to volunteers interested in helping with this and other projects. https://exploregeneseevalley.com/wheatland
